Introducing Honolulu Chiropractor Dr. Dennis Momyer

I grew up with frequent headaches. There were a lot of medically oriented professions in my family and in those days they didn't think about chiropractic. After high school, I went to see a chiropractor on my own and, as they say, the rest is history. I had almost instant relief but, more important to me, I learned the overall health benefits of chiropractic. Right then I realized that I not only wanted to remain under chiropractic care, but I wanted to become a chiropractor myself.

Honolulu, Hawaii Chiropractor, Dr. Dennis Momyer

I attend the Universities of Iowa and Hawaii and then graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. Palmer was the first chiropractic school -- chiropractic having been developed by Daniel David Palmer and his son B.J. David Palmer, the third generation, was president of the college when I attended. Palmer was then -- and remains -- at the forefront of chiropractic education. I was lucky to be able to work my way through school. I lived and worked at a hospital. The nurses were great to me and helped me along the way; a lot of times they helped do my work as an orderly while I studied for exams.

As in most chiropractic practices, we see a lot of patients with low back, neck and shoulder pain and headaches. My greatest satisfaction, however, is when families come in for periodic check-ups. Prevention is the key. Most people change their diet after their first stroke or start exercising after their first heart attack instead of before the fact. Good spinal health is a piece of the overall health picture. Put all pieces of the pie together including chiropractic and you can't help but function better!

My brother is also a chiropractor in Kent, Washington. I am an avid runner and golfer. I have been an active member, over the years, of Jacyees, Knights of Columbus and am currently president of the Miss Hawaii Organization, which is part of the Miss America Organization (the largest provider of scholarships offered to young women in the world).

I would never recommend anything I wasn't a full participant in and that includes receiving regular chiropractic adjustments from one of the other doctors of chiropractic in our office. As diet is a piece of the health pie, I believe strongly in a well-balanced diet and follow the basic principles of the Zone Diet developed by Dr. Barry Sears.

If you would like to know more about chiropractic and learn more about your health concerns, we offer a free Back School Class which takes place on the last Wednesday of each month at our office. Just let us know that you are coming and how many guests you will be bringing!

Dr. Dennis Asks some important questions of interest to Honolulu residents - Chiropractor Honolulu Dr. Dennis Asks...

What's the difference between sick care and health care?
Sick care is largely about relieving or suppressing symptoms. Health care is about improving performance. While sick care is about how you feel, health care is about how you function. Sick care is what you do to treat an obvious problem, and health care is what you do to avoid the problem and advance your well-being.
How do most people deal with subluxations?
First, they try to ignore them. When they don't, they go to the medicine cabinet to stop their brain from feeling the symptom. Later, back surgery may be threatened. Sadly, it's not until this later stage that they consult our Honolulu chiropractic office. Yet, even with the delay, most are delighted by the results produced by today's chiropractic care. Contact us and let's get started.
